Week 15 - November 21, 2016

So this week has been a pretty entertaining. We now have a mandatory bike day for the mission. Every Thursday we are supposed to only ride bikes or walk if bikes aren't available. So Wednesday night rolls rolls around and we decided to work on our bikes to make sure that they were ready for the next day.  To my surprise both of the tubes in my bike are flat and on further inspection I find that both have holes in them.... I hadn't even ridden my bike on my mission yet..... So yeah I was not happy. We went to Walmart and guess what? They were stocked full off all different types of bike tubes, but they didn't have any of the kind I needed. So we moved our bike day to Saturday so that we could go out and find stuff for my bike.

Saturday was actually a pretty good day. We only got two lessons in because of how far we had to go on bikes but it was all good. We had a guy that likes to have us missionaries over to study the bible with him but he wasn't able to meet with us. On the ride from his house to ours we were stopped by a little girl that said that her mom wanted us to come in and talk to us. He mom asked if we could say a prayer with her because she had just gotten into a car accident on the way to her wedding and was still really shaken up. It was so cool to think that if we had not been on bikes that day we would not have met her.

So the other crazy thing from this week is the weather. We had a cold front come in and it has been cold!!! It is about 30 degrees in the morning! I love it. And it rained a little bit. And by a little I mean a lot... We were driving back from Eunice after a dinner appointment and it just let loose. We could hardly see the road. It only lasted for about 10 minutes but it was really cool.

So just a little scripture that I read in personal study this week.

2 Nephi 9:51
Wherefore, do not spend money for that which is of no worth, nor your labor for that which cannot satisfy.Hearken diligently unto me, and remember the words which have spoken; ancome unto the Holy One of Israel, and feast upon that whicperisheth not, neither can bcorrupted, and let your soul delight in fatness.

Love you all! Have a wonderful week!!

Week 14 - November 14, 2016

Hola and hello from the good old Opelousas Louisiana!

So good news, the weather is finally cooled off!! It is getting into the 60's and it has finally rained. First time I have seen rain since I have been here. The cool weather makes it a lot more comfortable to go out and do things in mission clothes.

Next piece of good news. Elder Bean and I get a new car!! Ours is over 50,000 miles so they are getting a new car set up for us. The bad news with that is that we have used well over half of our miles all ready for this month.... Our only prospects are in Lafayette and that is a good amount of miles to get there.

So this past week we had a Zone Conference. Nothing too major happened at the conference but from now on, every Thursday is a solo bike day. No car just bike. That should help us with our miles for the month hopefully.

Yesterday Fransisco was conferred to the Aaronic Priesthood as a Priest! The elders quorum president is already pushing to give him the Melchizedek Priesthood because he wants him as one of his councilors!  It was really cool.

Also, yesterday we had a baptism for one of the kids of a part member family that always has us for dinner on Sundays. His name is Justin. He is 9. It was hard to get him to set a date because it is the middle of hunting season and he wanted to spend as much time hunting as possible but his mom and dad set a date and had him stick to it.

So the plan for this coming week is for Elder Bean and I to tract the only Hispanic trailer park that we know of. It is down in Lafayette. We are also planing to work with less-active members. He got a ward roster and have been looking for people on it that we think we should go and visit and get to know. So hopefully this next week sees us with a few new Spanish investigators and some other people that we can go see.

Well I don't have much else to say this week. Time to go play some pool and ping pong.

Have a great week y'all!!

Week 13 - November 7, 2016

Hey Y'all!!

So it is the end of the first week of my second transfer. We have already use over a fourth of the miles that we have for this week. We have had a lot of contacts that we have gone and delivered Bibles to. We have a few English investigators that want us to come and share messages with them but still no Spanish investigators. Hopefully we will have some soon.

The new Elder in the area is waiting for his visa to go to Brazil. He speaks fluent Portuguese because his mom is from Portugal. He is really cool and is excited to be out on his mission.

Well there really isn't anything else to say this week. I am sorry that I am not sending pictures. I keep forgetting my camera at the apartment.

Love you all.

Week 12 - November 1, 2016 +

(P-Day was a day later due to transfers)

Well I really don't have much to tell for this past week.

We tried to contact a lot of referrals but it being Halloween weekend no one was at home so we struck out at every house. No one was home or in town.

So the biggest news is that President gave us a huge curve ball this week with transfers. We were all expecting Elder Hunter to leave Opelousas and Elder Otterstrum to stay but the exact opposite is happening. Elder Otterstrum is leaving to a new area and training! It is his first transfer out of Opelousas. Elder Hunter is training again in Opelousas so we have a training district still.

Other than that it was a pretty normal week.

Oh yeah the Sisters bikes got stolen on their first day ever riding them on the mission.... Can you say bad luck.

Well I hope you all have a great week.

Love you all!!
